My experience in the construction industry began with a summer job while attending Toronto's York University. As assistant to the Quality Control Supervisor for the General Contractor on condominium construction projects, it was my job to list quality defects in the sub-contractor's work. Our policy at the time was to give the subs the opportunity to repair their defects or have us do the repairs for them and bill them back. This gave me the opportunity to closely examine and understand the construction process from digging foundations to pouring concrete, framing, insulation, drywall, electrical, plumbing, windows, doors, roofing, siding, painting and masonry. This unique responsibility hardly made me an expert in all of these fields, but I did learn enough to be able to distinguish quickly between the pretenders and the craftsmen.

When I left school, I began work as a sales agent for a construction company in Calgary that specialized in renovation work. That's where I first became familiar with metal roofs for residential applications, and in 1980 we began installing metal tile roofs. Leaving that contracting company in the mid 80s to start my own sunroom component manufacturing business, I continued my association with metal roofs as one of our major customers was a manufacturer and installation contractor of metal roof products.

As the construction industry evolved, I began focusing exclusively on metal roof products and by the 90s became again the agent for a couple of my favorite manufacturers of specialty metal roofs. I've been doing the same thing ever since, incorporating Omega Roof in 2001 and adding my own designs and proprietary products along the way. I truly enjoy the renovation side of the construction industry and am always excited by historical restorations and all sorts of residential reconstruction and upgrades.

On a personal note, I was born in Manchester, UK, and raised in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. I am now a long-time resident of lovely Reno, Nevada, where I'm happily married with three children and a grandson and granddaughter. Some of my hobbies include bridge, hockey, badminton, and designing architectural details.
